Adjudicator

I have been asked on different occasions to provide judging for a variety of environments such as for Solo and Ensemble or for Region and All-State auditions.  Some orchestra teachers use this service to assess their students progress or to mimic the audition setting as practice before the actual event.

Solo and Ensemble/ Region and All-State Auditions

During these events, students play either individually or as a group for a judge and receive a score or rating based on their performance.  Usually a judge is looking for things such as musicality, technique, accuracy, adherence to style, and overall presentation.  They might also provide a written critique, giving supportive feedback overall.

Educational Assessment

Orchestra teachers have provided what we call "mock auditions" for their students to give them a chance to play in front of a judge and receive critique before attempting the real thing later on.  The process is the same as a real audition including preparation of solo pieces and set up in a separate audition space.  These are very beneficial as the students can then take the constructive criticism from these mock auditions to make their performances even better, not to mention build confidence.
